Perks of self care: candle edition
If you take a timeout and care for yourself, this means you have more to give to others. Why? Because you can’t give to others what you don’t have yourself! Without that self love, confidence, care and compassion you get from self care, you can’t show any of this to others around you. I guess what I’m trying to say is, self care ISN’T SELFISH!
So that’s one benefit to self care. Here are a few more: self care boosts your immune system, improves self-compassion and also provides a break from stress! But these are just a few – there are so many other perks and powers of self care out there that not only benefit you but others too!
Examples of self care
There are so many ways you can treat yourself and de-stress and I’m here to let you in on just a few of my favourites.
- Do a face mask
- Do your nails
- Drink water
- Try that new yoga class (or try out meditation, with our step-by-step guide on our website)
- Run a bath and light a candle
My personal favourite is running a bath and lighting a candle. I’m not sure everyone knows the real power behind lighting a candle, so listen up, I’m about to tell you.
Why are candles so important?
Candles spark 2 of our senses, smell and sight.
In terms of smell, the smell of a scented candles stimulates the part of our brains which is connected to our memory and our mood. Let’s take a couple of scents from our range and I’ll explain the significance of these on our moods. So, o break it down:
The lavender scent acts as an aid that improves sleep and also acts as a stress relief.
Lime Basil and Mandarin:
The mandarin scent lifts your mood and reduces stress. The basil element has anti-depressant benefits and also helps to reduce stress. The lime element works on uplifting and stimulating the right moods. So, if you need a pick-me-up, this is right for you!
Velvet Rose & Oud:
The rose element works to calm and uplift, as well as having anti-depressant benefits. The oud scent works to relax, calm and increase the activity in your senses. So, if you fancy a chill out or meditation, this is right for you!
On top of this, just by looking at lit candles, this reduces stress and increases self-awareness. The soft illumination helps us to calm down and even achieve a meditative state! So, if you’re looking to chill out, have some alone time and really take care of yourself, lighting a candle is a great way to start.
